Venus Alley is a labor of love, and Rudy Giecek is a man with a cause, if an unusual one: preserving a piece of Butte, Montana history. The Dumas Hotel was the site of the last brothel surviving from Butte’s rough and tumble mining days of the last century. He wrote Venus Alley to help support the costs of maintaining the building. This is the fictionalized story of two real women of the Dumas. Rudy feels the story was dictated to him by their ghosts. I helped him polish his manuscript and designed the book interior and cover to reflect the Depression-era setting of the novel.
